BCM Construction_Days 80 & 81: Bricks, framing and sound
Here’s a two day update on the goings on at our construction site. I have to say at this point it is getting a little bit overwhelming now that we can actually see all the rooms framed up and realize just how much more space we are moving in to. Our current space is approx. 44 feet x 20 feet for the primary workspace. That will easily fit into the unfinished open space in our new facility. I mean it looked really big when the shell was finished, but it was just a big box. Now it’s turning into an actual production space and we can really visualize what the space is going to do for us.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 8TH
Looking across the front of the building from right to left. They’ve already finished the first layer of brick and have moved on to the second level using the scaffolding. And you can now see reflections in the new windows.
Looking down the right side of the building. Nothing like going to work in a nice peaceful location every day.
Working down the left side of the building towards the end of the day. Takes a lot of stuff to put up the brick.
End of the day Wednesday. Almost have the bricks finished on the left side. No new framing this day.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH
Jenny and Adrienne standing in the kitchen / game room with the unfinished space on the left. In the distance you can see the bathrooms and offices.
Jenny checking out the new Media Library. Approx. 21′ x 13′ this room will house all manner of media and our CatDV cataloging system. Every clip, every DVD, every BluRay will be catalogued and housed in this one room. That big open space right in front of the camera is the doorway that allows you to walk from the Machine Room to the Library. It’s a direct path so you don’t have to go out into the hallway and walk around. More efficient that way.
Jenny and Adrienne looking towards the front of the new Color / Sound Suite. Both Color Enhancement and 5.1 Surround Sound mixing will be done in this room. Of course you can do standard stereo mixes as well. Sound Designer Patrick Belden came out today to help us lay out the “room within a room” to completely isolate the sound design suite from the rest of the facility. The design will also help to tune the room properly so we don’t get a lot of sound reflection and bass sound. Joe is really looking forward to putting this room together as he’s never done a room like this before. Heck he’s never built a production facility before either! I guess this is turning into the Jenny and Adrienne show today…..
The left side of the building has one complete area finished! These guys are moving right along. Joe expects them to be completed by next Friday at the latest, barring any bad weather.
Well here’s an “end of day” shot for today. I actually forgot to get the shot from the front of the building today! Hard to believe, but there you go. The crew is simply doing an outstanding job and one thing I always do when I visit the job site… I say “Thank You” to all the crew members. Yes I’m paying them and they’re doing what they’re paid to do. But I was always taught that a job well done should be recognized and you should thank those who do a good job. These guys are definitely doing a great job. So if someone does a good job for you, remember to say “Thank you.” They will certainly remember you for saying it.
